Scanners Stink

So what I have discovered now that I am doing all of my sketches in marker is that scanners are awful.  You'd think the big expensive one at work would be better than our clunky Canon at home.  Nope.  I decided to snap a picture of one of my recent ones - a bridal sketch of Deege.

Deege got married in December - a BLAST of a wedding - and I decided to sketch her dress in marker (I will post another sketch colored in Photoshop later - its on my laptop).

*Interested in custom bridal illustration from your big day or a as a gift? I'm much cheaper than the going rate :) Shoot me an email @ cat.munzing@gmail.com

Curated.

A few weeks ago, a dear friend of mine connected me with Curated., an interior design firm based out of Los Angeles and New York.  They came up with this awesome design of a tote bag that turns into a chic scarf, and they needed some illustrations for their presentation.  I sent them a bunch of my sketches and they decided I was their gal!  It may have had something to do with the fact that since I'm just starting out in this fashion illustration game, I'm way cheaper than the rest of their candidates.  So we both win.

Here are the final images submitted after a few rounds of edits and adjustments:

Pretty fun, right?  I feel like I need one of these in my life.  I'm a sucker for any black-and-white graphic print.  It was really awesome working with them and I'm hoping this leads to more work!

Edith

We are a season behind on Downton Abbey and it is EXTREMELY hard to keep away from spoilers. So while I  may not be able to enjoy the surprise of certain plot points, I always enjoy the costumes. Like I probably gasp out loud at least once an episode at these dresses.

Here's a quick sketch I did of Edith:

I've started going through all my sketching supplies, throwing out used-up markers, sharpening pencils, deciding what I need to replenish.  Clearly I need some skin-tone markers.  I need to step away from the photoshop and get back to the natural look of my old sketching.  What do you think?

Sketch-a-day.

Well, we saw how good I was keeping up with Magazine Monday, so this is a bit ambitious.

I'm going to try to do one sketch a day in it's entirety. I have a few themes I'm working on (Bridal. Get excited.) to help me along, as well as just outfit-of-the-day sketches and projects I'm making in the studio.

This is Sketch #1 for a lovely lady named Jen that I've known since she was a little tyke.  She received a Cat Got Dressed giftcard last year and is going to use it towards a fun summer dress.

(I was trying a more abstract technique here...)

Magazine Monday (on Tuesday?)

Here's a quick sketch I did sunday morning at the crack of dawn because I couldn't sleep.  I don't remember what magazine or what designer.  I'm the worst.

Friday Flowers

Happy Friday ladies and gents!

I've been in serious prom-dress-mode, but took a break to make this little number for an event I have on Saturday (which I'm not sure is a surprise or not so I will not be specific as to what it is).

Here's the sketch:

Here's the terribly-lit instagram:

I'll try to get a pic snapped tomorrow of yours truly wearing it.

Have a great weekend!

Magazine Monday

I'm thinking of starting a weekly themed sketch every Monday.  Let's see how long this one sticks...

This weeks look is brought to you today by Céline (I figured out how to type that accented 'e'), via Marie Claire.  I loved the bright tomato-red skirt paired with a sleek black turtleneck.  Chic.
